Privacy Policy

This policy describes what information is collected when you visit childofthekingmusic.net, why it's collected, and what your rights are. I try to keep this plain and short.

What the site collects

• Basic analytics via Google Analytics 4. Google receives a sample of your visit (country, region, city-level location, device type, browser, pages viewed, approximate time spent). Your IP address is anonymized before it's stored. No personal identifiers are collected.
• An anonymous visitor ID stored in your browser (localStorage key cotk_uid). This is a random string with no link to any real identity. It exists solely so that your like/dislike votes on songs persist across page reloads and can be updated (if you change your mind and click the button again).
• Aggregate song statistics. When you listen to a song for at least 60 seconds or cast a vote, the server records a tally update (total plays, total likes, total dislikes per song). These are not tied to your identity — only to your anonymous visitor ID.
• Mailing list signups. If you enter your email in the signup form on the Connect section, we first send you a one-time confirmation email; nothing is stored on the list until you click the link in it. Once confirmed, your email address is stored by Resend (resend.com), the email service used to send new-song and new-video announcements. Every announcement includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom that removes you instantly. You can also email the address below at any time to request removal. Your anonymous visitor ID is used only to limit repeated signup attempts.
• Embedded music video (YouTube). The featured video on the home page is hosted on YouTube. Nothing from YouTube is loaded until you press the play button. When you do, the video is served through YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com), which does not store tracking cookies unless you interact with the video itself. YouTube's own privacy policy applies to the video playback at that point. Watching the video for at least 60 seconds counts toward that song's aggregate play tally, exactly like listening in the album player.
• Comments. If you post a comment on a song, album, or video, the site stores the comment text, the name you choose to give (or "Anonymous" if you leave it blank), the date, and which song it was posted on. Your anonymous visitor ID is used only to limit how many comments can be posted in a short time. Comments are reviewed by the site owner before they appear publicly; a new-comment notification (containing the name and text you submitted) is emailed to the owner through Resend (resend.com). Approved comments are visible to all visitors. To have a comment removed, email the address below.

What the site does NOT collect

• No real names, addresses, phone numbers, or payment info.
• No advertising cookies or third-party ad tracking.
• No selling of data to anyone. Ever.

Cookies and similar technology

Google Analytics may set cookies on your device. The anonymous visitor ID described above is stored in localStorage, which is not technically a cookie but serves a similar purpose. You can clear both at any time via your browser settings; doing so will reset your like/dislike history on this site and is otherwise harmless.

Your rights (GDPR / CCPA and similar)

You have the right to request a copy of any information associated with your visit, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Because the site does not collect personally-identifying data, most requests come down to "please delete my newsletter signup" or "please zero out my vote history," which are straightforward.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of the page will reflect it.
